'Zetes' is believed to be one of twelve Cavaliers built by A.H.Moody of Swanwick to Lloyds 100A1. The sloop rigged Cavalier is a sister ship to the well known centre cockpit Halberdier (ketch rigged) with which she shares the same hull and similar internal layout. These long distance, seakindly craft were heavily constructed and hand built to a high standard of craftsmanship that has withstood the test of time. The Cavalier is an exceptionally dry boat, powerful enough to maintain a steady cruising speed of around 6.5 knots in comfort and security. The large tankage is an excellent feature reducing the need to frequently replenish fuel and water. Sailing performance is surprisingly good for a heavy displacement yacht, aided by a 43' mast, heavy iron ballast keel and relatively large sail area. The traditional varnished teak interior is particularly pleasing with a spacious owners' cabin and excellent all-round vision afforded by the deck Saloon. At least one Cavalier has made an Atlantic crossing west to east..
Service history: The present owners purchased 'Zetes' in 1994 and cruised her to the Mediterranean where she has been laid-up ashore when not in use for summer holidays. Following the lead set by her previous owners, much effort has gone into maintaining and improving the boat notably by way of preventative epoxy, repainting the topsides and upperworks in two-part polyurethane, updated electronics, replacement upholstery, carpets, curtains, oversize rigging, all opening windows (6), uprated alternator and 'smart' charger, sprayhood and sun awnings, Jabsco sea toilet, twin sensor gas detector etc.The demands of a larger family mean that 'Zetes' is now reluctantly offered for sale in excellent condition as a rare example of these classic pilothouse cruising yachts. She is currently laid up ashore in Southampton.
