Short Description of the Morgan Giles MG30

The Morgan Giles 30 is a GRP version of a classic Morgan Giles long keel design: a very sea-kindly yacht with appealing lines. MG30 owners all say this is a yacht that will look after you in a blow. Yet she is easy to handle and sails well. I have sailed her single -handed.

Santana has benefited from great TLC and constant upgrades by myself and the previous owners. Exceptionally, she benefits from Monitor wind-vane self-steering. Santana is stored ashore for the 2010/11 winter, but otherwise in full sailing order. She is based in Poole Harbour, but we may be away cruising, so you need to contact us for viewing to find where we are. Am willing to support buyer in re-commissioning her.

Engines & Propulsion

Vetus/Mitsubishi M3.10 3 cylinder , 20hp, fresh-water cooled diesel engine. Drives 3 blade fixed propeller via neutal/fore/astern gear box.

Propeller fitted with a Rope Stripper from Ambassador Marine. This all-stainless steel device is designed to cut through obstructions before the engine is disabled.
On hauling out at the end of the 2009 season, it was apparent that Santana must have fouled a wire rope of some kind during the season. Clearly, the Rope Stripper had dealt with it without me even being aware of it! I shudder to think what might have been, given our passage around the Lizard to and from the Scilly Isles.

Spray hood

Stack pack

White cockpit awning that fastens down to provide extra living space during inclement weather.

Coppercoat anti-fouling below the waterline. Virtually non-eroding and so lasts many years, as well as being less environmentally damaging than erodible antifouling treatments. Santana was treated with Coppercoat just before I purchased her in 2001, since when I have never needed to anti-foul her. I admit to feeling rather smug each spring, when neighbours in the yard are going through that unpleasant and messy task.
A further advantage of Coppercoat is that the epoxy coating provides an additional layer of protection against water penetrating the GRP, and hence against osmosis. . Contact the seller of this Morgan Giles MG30 for more details.

Rigging & Winches

Rigging & Winches equipped on this Morgan Giles MG30 - Silver anodised aluminium single in-line spreader masthead rig and boom by Kemp.
Standing rigging: 1 x 19 stainless steel rigging, with a Bamar screw thread backstay adjuster (2001) and Rotastay genoa furling gear. A rigging survey was carried out in January 2002. The forestay was shown to be of recent date. All other standing rigging was renewed, together with the spreaders and hounds and other renewals as recommended at the time.

Two Lewmar 16 2 speed winches for genoa sheets
Eight Barton clutches for rigging lines with two Lewmar 6 single speed halyard winches on coach roof plus various winches on mast.

Sails

Sails of the Morgan Giles MG30 - Main sail and furling genoa are of dacron by Kemp.
Two stage slab reefing is controlled by four reefing lines run back to the cockpit, from where all reefing and unreefing can be carried out.
The sails are stated as new in 1998 and have been regularly maintained. The genoa UV strip was last replaced in the winter 2008/09.

Cruising ‘chute in nylon by Kemp can be set as a spinnaker when the wind is aft, and, with its tack attached to the bow, as a ‘jenniker’ for broad reaches. A snuffer is used to dowse the sail. There is a spinnaker pole which can also be used to pole out the genoa when goose-winged.

Owner's Comments of the Morgan Giles MG30

I am an MG30 enthusiast, set up the MG30 register and run the class web site and eGroup. However, I am retiring, planning live-aboard cruising, and need a larger boat. It is with considerable sadness that I have to sell Santana. I have had enormous enjoyment with her and will miss the admiration and appreciation she gets everywhere she goes.
Sale price: £13,950 plus £2,000 to include the self steering if required
