This Formosa 51 is an “Owner Edition” and was built by the Formosa Boat Building Company, in 1981 at Tampai, Taiwan.
The last of the Formosa 51 cruisers built, she is in good order throughout with many upgrades.

Rigging & Winches equipped on this Formosa 51 - Standing SS rigging replaced 2005, This is a cutter headed ketch, The original wooden masts have been replaced with aluminum masts and booms fitted with “Pro Furl Mk7 in boom main and mizzen reefing system” the Genoa is also roller furling. All winches (6) have been replaced with Harken self tailing 2 speed S/S.

Large saloon with seating around table for eight, with “surround sound” hi fi and a 24in flat screen TV system, the table can be lowered to make a double bed. There is the chart table ahead of that with steering position, autopilot and all navigational aids. The aft cabin is a double en-suite with extra portholes on the transom. Ahead of the saloon is the galley which has a double sink, a four burner cooker and oven, microwave, a fridge and a freezer. There is a breakfast table in the galley that seats 4, there is a connecting door to the second head that has a sit-up bath and shower. Further ahead is the fore cabin which has one double with one single berth over it, there is also a connecting door to the head . The forepeak was originally the crew quarters with two single bunks and a lot of extra storage space..

Many sea miles have been sailed with my Formosa 51, including three return passages across the North Atlantic. The last crossing was in 2007 with the ARC rally plus extensive sailing in the Caribbean, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, She is comfortable for two people to sail with the Pro Furl system making sail handling a simple matter, the 24v bow thruster is powerful and responsive.
The hull is made of 19mm thick fiberglass and the decks are of a Teak sandwich construction. The interior is solid Teak throughout with elegant wood carving and fine detailed workmanship.
