After five incredible years together, I am selling her so that I can buy myself a catamaran. Yes, you purists are right; if I wanted performance I wouldn't be selling Stingo. But I am after the increased living and entertainment space that a catamaran offers. I hope I don't regret this because, at sea, cats are notoriously noisy and have an awkward motion.
Stingo is currently on the hard at Coral Cove Marina, in Chaguaramas Bay, Trinidad. She is the charter version giving accommodation that defies her size. She is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants a seriously equipped blue water cruiser at a very competitive price (solar power panels, Aries Wind Vane, Bimini and numerous miscellaneous extras).
Some upgrades: Custom shelving at the chart table, additional shelving on starboard side, all done in matching oak. Oak CD rack that holds 200 CD's, wine bottle holder, knife and detergent rack.
Please note that the price has been reduced to take into account the need for the following work to be done at the new owners expense (Just so that you can decide what colours you want):
Replace the UV strip on the Genoa and repair a few chaff marks on the mainsail batten pockets (quote from Ace Sails, Chaguaramas was TT$ 4980.00 (approx £ 420.00) A recent survey recommends redoing the epoxy treatment of the hull below the waterline (last done in 1996) and then apply anti-fouling. Quotes have varied enormously, depending how how many coats of epoxy and antifouling are applied; from US$ 800 to US$ 3500 excluding materials. If you do the work, well then, all it's going to cost you, is the materials. The advise from the survey was to apply three coats of epoxy and two coats of antifouling - but it's your choice in the end. These quotes also included waxing and polishing the topsides. Stingo has been on the hard since January 2005 and so her hull is properly dried out; making this an ideal time to redo the epoxy treatment. Although I don't have a copy of the recent survey, the gist of it was that there are no serious problems and that Stingo's condition is consistent with her age.
A US based broker has given me a list of achieved selling prices for 1988 Oceanis', which I am quite prepared to forward on to you. This will show that she is very keenly priced to sell. I also have a list of routine maintenance that needs to be done before Stingo is put back in the water.
