"Castaway" is a Elan 333, a Rob Humphreys' designed, superb cruiser / racer. Every owner feels that his boat is special and "Castaway" is no exception. It is the epitome of a "dream boat" and is very close to "as new" condition. When the present owners Patti and Tony Sands saw the hull shape and spec on paper having previously looked, with interest, at its baby sister, the Elan 295, there was not then (and still is not) another 10.5m craft that comes even close to the Elan 333 for performance and value. It is truly one of Humphreys' best designs and a future classic.
Hull Number 15 was completed in Slovenia late 1998 and commissioned at Port Solent by the importers (Marine Sales UK) early 1999. She starred as the review yacht in the May edition of Yachting World both on the front cover and as a centrefold in trial describing her as: "An exciting cocktail of style and perf! ormance." (Picture is actual boat). This description has been illustrated time and again in the last two seasons culminating in a return to Port Solent from Cherbourg after a second tour of the Channel Islands when with a furled main and the jib reduced to a 15riangle she handled, with consummate ease, a good 4-5 metre channel swell in a F8 to the delight and exhilaration of the crew, putting on to her berth at Port Solent just on the 12 hrs point. Not her fastest crossing but we did see 7 knots regularly and surfed the swell at a peak of 7.9 knots! And all this in the hands of cruising sailors!
The boat has never been raced, nevertheless we see no reason to cruise slowly and the Elan 333 provides just that - Fast, Safe, Comfortable Sailing.
In 2001, prior to venturing too far from home waters, she was equipped with Ratheon Twin Station RL72 Series Radar and Raychart 520 (Dual Helmsman and Nav. Station units with HSB connection) plus a 6 man offshore life raft! .
Side Notes: The present owners managed to obtain the RYA Sail Number GBR 7 333 T. The boat logo of "Castaway" and the text also exist as a computer file for reproduction on tee shirts etc.
With such a background there has to be a good reason for the sale. It is simply that the present owners are busy establishing a second home in France and can find little time for sailing in the next year or two.
Service history: Wintered ashore and professionally serviced, antifouled, engine etc. (bills on file) "Castaway" is due for re-launch in March and will be available from then onwards for inspection/trial sail by appointment.68000k.
