Owner's Comments of the Rustler 31

Sable is a classic 31 ft. long keel design by Kim Holman. Built in GRP in 1968 by Russell Anstey of Anstey Yachts, Poole, for his personal use for the 1969 Fastnet she includes a taller rig with increased encapsulated lead ballast and bigger scantlings. Sable has since been beautifully fitted out in teak for comfortable cruising. She is a British registered yacht (No. 336074). We have had Sable since 1994 and have steadily upgraded her. The original intention was to go sailing offshore, further afield than the Thames Estuary and East Coast of England. However family commitments and two artificial hips have virtually put paid to that. Sable is a heavy, deep draft boat ideal for long distance sailing with superb sea keeping qualities. But she is not so good for creek crawling around the East Coast rivers and creeks where a draught of nearly six foot can limit the areas to visit and tidal hights are always an issue. She is a delight to sail, particularly in a blow when she really comes into her own. We will both miss her when she goes but our sailing horizons have changed significantly in the last two years. We are now looking for a lighter shallow draught boat to explore some of the creeks we have never been able to visit before. Our trips will be relatively short now; the odd week or two here and there. How life changes!.

Service history: There are extensive records of the maintenance and new equipment. Sable was professionally treated for osmosis in 1999/2000. The hull was peeled, lightly sand blasted and allowed to dry to below 5oisture before being recoated with epoxy to the original hull thickness. At the same time four coats of Copperguard copper antifouling were applied. This is stated to last for at least 10 years and avoids the annual antifouling ritual. There is 5 year guarantee on the osmosis treatment and 4 years on the Copperguard. 30000k.
