 History of Bavaria Yachts

Bavaria Yachts began in 1979 incorporating the best of German craftsmanship and state-of-the-art methodology to create a name synonymous for sailing and motor yachts of outstanding value and quality.

As one of the top-ranked and largest yacht builders in Europe, Bavaria Yachts has developed a line of yachts that stand out for their solid and lasting value. This is the result of extensive cooperation between Bavaria and the most renowned yacht-design firms in Europe.

Innovation, modern manufacturing methods, computer-aided manufacturing processes and highly skilled craftsman all enable Bavaria Yachts to be produced with an eye toward cost effectiveness without skimping on quality.

Tucked away in Northern Bavaria, miles away from the nearest major body of water, is the largest, and the most surprising boatbuilding facility in the world. Here, since 1979, Bavaria has been applying the principles of German engineering and European craftsmanship to building sailing yachts. Last year, in fact, they built over 2,000 boats, every one made to order, using computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques on the most innovative production line in boatbuilding.

German boat builders have always prided themselves on the individuality of the vessels they build. If you are looking for a boat that is as unique and sturdy as it is handsome you need look no further than a Bavaria cruiser. Interiors of a Bavaria cruiser mark a sea-change in design. A Bavaria cruiser is indeed a stable, steady performer and the models include the Bavaria 31, Bavaria 34, Bavaria 38, Bavaria 40, Bavaria 42, Bavaria 46 and the Bavaria 50.

The Bavaria Factory
Here are a few of its features:

  • Beam-to-beam assembly. Building out boats beam-to-beam rather than the traditional bow-to-stern means we can incorporate 31 stations on the assembly line, with fewer functions at any one station. This limits employee overcrowding and installation problems. This type of assembly also means that a Bavaria 31 and a Bavaria 50 can be produced on the same line.
  • A Robotic CNC machine. Cutouts for hatches and ports, drilling and taping for installing deck hardware and engine would normally take two men four hours. Our newest employee, a robotic CNC machine, can do it all in 20 minutes, with closer tolerances and improved accuracy.
  • A Chain Drive Mold Movement System. While hull and deck lamination is still done by hand, our chain drive mold movement system allows drying ovens and molds to be rotated on their cradles, dramatically reducing labor time.
  • Seamless Quality Control. Before a hull is laid up, all the material that will be used in the laminate for that model is cut to spec and loaded onto a trolley. This trolley accompanies the mold through the laminating section, and laminating is only complete when the trolley is empty.

German boat builders have always prided themselves on the individuality of the vessels they build. If you are looking for a boat that is as unique and sturdy as it is handsome you need look no further than a Bavaria cruiser. Interiors of a Bavaria cruiser mark a sea-change in design. A Bavaria cruiser is indeed a stable, steady performer. The Cruiser series reinforces Bavaria’s reputation for building yachts with truly aesthetic lines, but it doesn’t stop there. Above deck, the cockpit has teak seats and sole and a teak folding table with storage beneath. All lines are led to the cockpit for easy sail handling. The newly restyled Cruiser series features light-hued varnished mahogany woodwork, a large salon illuminated by large deck skylights and fixed hull ports. Natural cross ventilation is achieved by the placement of numerous opening ports and hatches. Sailing potential and livability, a classic combination, and classic Bavaria.

Popular Bavaria Models

If further proof was needed that you get more with a Bavaria, the new Bavaria 34 Cruiser is actually 35 feet 2 inches overall. Increased interior volume creates a large entertaining area and still allows for a big, L-shaped galley and a navigation table. Large
cabins, a head that supplies a wet locker for foul-weather gear storage, ample natural light and ventilation all add up to an extremely livable yacht down below. The experienced sailor will be impressed by the above decks as well. The cockpit has been designed to allow for the best of either relaxing or serious sailing. Whether you choose the fully-battened or the in-mast furling mainsail (either comes standard), the sailing performance
will become immediately evident when you take the large leather covered wheel and feel the Bavaria 34 Cruiser respond effortlessly to your every command. An electric swim platform allows for open access to a tender or the standard hot and cold transom shower.

Above deck, the sheets and halyards lead to the cockpit, and all winches, including the strategically placed standard secondary winches, are self-tailing, making the 34 extremely enjoyable to sail. The main salon has generous seating and storage space with a large table with leaves that fold down for additional accessibility and comfort. The galley’s standard amenities include microwave oven, gimbaled two-burner propane stove with oven, double stainless-steel sink, icebox with 12V refrigeration unit and plenty of storage space. The varnished mahogany interior, fluid floor plan and abundant natural light from the 34 Cruiser’s 14 hatches and ports create an open, roomy atmosphere below decks. Both cabins have double berths, opening ports and hatches for enhanced natural light and ventilation and ample closet and shelf space. A hanging locker for foul-weather gear is an added enhancement in the spacious head that also features hot and cold shower, standing headroom and mahogany storage cabinets.

As a replacement for the extremely popular Bavaria 32, the 33 Cruiser, while being a departure in many areas, still retains that real “yacht” feel that was a major component of the success of the 32. At 34’3” overall, the 33 Cruiser boasts almost 150 sq. ft. more sail area. Set on over four feet more mast height, the enhanced performance potential sets it even further apart from the competition. A fuller hull shape allows for increased interior volume, while two fixed hull ports and two skylights aft of the mast accentuate the lighter mahogany interior wood finish. Multiple opening ports and hatches supply ample cross ventilation.

Features of the Bavaria 33 Cruiser:

  • Two cabins with double berths and enclosed lockers
  • L-shaped galley with ample stowage for dishes and provisions

Never one to let success stall creativity or development, Bavaria has replaced one of its more popular models - the 30 Cruiser - with an upgraded and larger model, the Bavaria 32 Cruiser. More interior volume with additional opening deck hatches and larger ports enhance light access and natural ventilation. Strategically placed on the cabin top and cockpit coaming, additional winches make sail handling even easier. An electric transom step provides access to the teak-covered swim platform, and an easily adjusted mainsheet traveler allows for better managing of the boat’s sails. Adding these elements, all while maintaining superior performance and boat handling, has served to help make Bavaria an industry-standout. To accommodate these new features, no wonder Bavaria had to make this latest addition 32’ 1” LOA.

Above deck, the 31 Cruiser boasts teak cockpit sole and seats, a double-spreader Selden mast and choice of conventional, furling or fully battened mainsail included in the base boat price. A gimbaled two-burner propane stove with oven, an icebox with 12V refrigeration unit, a stainless steel sink and stowage for pots and pans enhance the usability of the 31 Cruiser’s open galley. Both cabins have double berths and ample shelf and closet space. The six opening ports, four opening hatches and two large fixed ports provide the 31 Cruiser with plenty of natural light and ventilation. The spacious head has easy care surfaces, a hanging locker for foul weather gear and multiple opening ports and hatches. The comfortable salon has ample seating, a chart table with storage space for charts and instruments and varnished light mahogany woodwork throughout the entire boat.

A fuller hull shape also allows for a larger relative interior volume that retains the same ample light and ventilation evident in all previous models. The 30 Cruiser has that same “yacht” feel as all the other Bavaria Cruiser series models, taking full benefit of the lighter mahogany woodwork that is a signature of the new series Bavarias. Add to all this the no compromise construction benefits obtained with the use of a full interior “grid” system and the 30 Cruiser is definitely a yacht whose cruising potential is as limitless as the imagination of the owner.
